Etsy's monthly statement is the most complete record of your shop's money, but it isn't a profit and loss statement. Here's how to read it.
Where to download it
Shop Manager › Finances › Monthly statements › View all › pick the year and month › Generate CSV. Etsy emails you a download link. You get one file per calendar month, in your payment account currency.
The columns
Date, Type, Title, Info, Currency, Amount, Fees & Taxes, Net and Tax Details. Money columns are text with a currency sign (for example "-£0.17"), and "--" means empty. Net = Amount + Fees & Taxes. Some 2026 files have two extra headings (Status, Availability Date).
Row types and what they mean

| Sale | An order payment. Amount is what the buyer paid for items and postage. | Income |
| Tax | "Sales tax paid by buyer": tax Etsy collected and pays to the government. | Not yours: leave it out of income |
| Fee | Listing, transaction, processing and regulatory fees. Positive Fee rows starting "Credit for…" are refunds of fees. | Cost |
| VAT | VAT on Etsy's fees (UK and EU shops without a VAT ID). | Cost if you're not VAT-registered |
| Marketing | "Etsy Ads" (usually one row per day) and "Fee for sale made through Offsite Ads". | Cost |
| Shipping | Postage labels bought on Etsy. | Cost |
| Refund | Money returned to a buyer; Etsy credits part of its fees back. | Reduces income |
| Deposit / Payment | Money moved to your bank, or a payment you made to clear a negative balance. | Neither: it's a transfer |
Common gotchas
- Counting deposits as income double-counts your sales. Use the Sale rows.
- Tax rows look like money you received, but Etsy pays them on.
- Re-saving the CSV in Excel can turn "30-Apr-25" style dates into the wrong year and amounts into text or brackets. Keep the original file.
- Months don't match deposits: a sale can be "available on" a later date (shown in the Info column), so a deposit can mix months.
